Mayor's Proclamation
WHEREAS, Bees are essential for a healthy environment, pollinating most of the foods we eat today.  It is estimated that at least every third bite of food we eat comes from the work of the honeybee; and

WHEREAS, a Bee Buddy recognizes the importance of honeybees, and the dependence of many types of plants and food crops on pollinators to produce flowers and fruit; and

WHEREAS,  a bee-friendly farm grows foods naturally and organically, and uses practices that keeps soil healthy and fertile and uses compost instead of chemicals to create a balanced and healthy ecosystem; and

WHEREAS, Bees are dying from various assaults and shortages of bee food, and honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives; and

WHEREAS, known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing apples, coffee, mac nuts, mangos, broccoli, watermelon, onions, cherries and countless other fruits and vegetables; and

WHEREAS, the first Bee Buddy Festival will be held in Kalapana at Uncle Robert’s Kava Club, Sept. 15, 2012 where we can learn how to be a Bee Buddy and keep the honey flowing
